Double win at India’s National Maritime Day awards

Anglo-Eastern recognised as India’s leading foreign employer of seafarers and educator of cadets at this year’s diamond jubilee celebrations.

National Maritime Day of India is celebrated every year on April 5th to commemorate the departure of the first Indian merchant vessel, SS Loyalty, for London on this date in 1919. This year’s National Maritime Day was extra special, being the 60th occasion since its inception in 1964, thus making this a diamond jubilee celebration.

The day is observed to honour the maritime industry for its contribution to world trade. As part of the national celebrations, awards are presented to outstanding members of the industry. These awards carry a lot of prestige, since they are issued by the Directorate General of Shipping, India’s main shipping authority.

This year, Anglo-Eastern proudly celebrated a double win, being awarded first rank in the “Outstanding Foreign Employer of Seafarers” category and, for the first time, first rank in the “Outstanding Maritime Training Institute” category for the Anglo-Eastern Maritime Academy (AEMA).

Receiving the awards on behalf of Anglo-Eastern and AEMA were deputy managing director Vineet Gupta and principal Capt. Suneel Sule, respectively, who were joined by more than two dozen other managers and directors from across the group.

This is the fifteenth time Anglo-Eastern has won the “Outstanding Foreign Employer of Seafarers” title. We are immensely honoured by the continued recognition and support and remain fully committed to employing and developing India’s seafaring talent, which accounts for some two-thirds of all Anglo-Eastern seafarers.

We are delighted to see the same recognition now extended to AEMA for its exemplary academic record, training excellence, state-of-the-art facilities, and green campus. The academy has long been a highly regarded institution that has won many accolades, with this National Maritime Day award being the most prestigious honour to date.

Well done and congratulations to our Indian colleagues at Anglo-Eastern and AEMA on their well-deserved award wins!
