Ammonia-ready dual-fuel Newcastle vessels officially named

On 20 May, Mineral Polska and Mineral Cesko were christened at Qingdao Beihai Shipyard in China, with the naming ceremony attended by Ludovic Saverys, CFO of CMB.TECH, and Anglo-Eastern’s Rajeev Salwan, Managing Director. We are pleased to have been entrusted with the full technical supervision and management of these ammonia-ready dual-fuel sister vessels.

Designed with environmental compliance and future-proofing features at their core, these two bulk carriers were built under the full technical supervision of our newbuilding and project management arm, Anglo-Eastern Technical Services (AETS), from concept development to delivery. The vessels incorporate IMO Tier III and EEDI Phase 3 compliance, advanced fuel optimisation systems, and digital integration for real-time performance monitoring.

What further sets these Newcastle vessels apart is their ammonia-ready main engine, the WinGD 6X72-B HPSCR, designed to accommodate ammonia as a future fuel, which positions them at the forefront of the industry’s transition to zero-carbon propulsion. The vessels will initially operate on conventional fuel, with retrofitting planned during future dry-dockings to install ammonia fuel systems.

Also equipped with energy-saving devices including Hub Vortex Absorbed Fins and Pre-Shrouded Vanes, these vessels are optimised for propulsion efficiency and fuel consumption reductions.

We extend our heartfelt congratulations to everyone involved, to CMB.TECH, and to all our team members who uphold the highest standards and the relentless pursuit of delivering excellence and quality.

Mineral Polska is in the good hands of Capt. Premjit Singh Dhanoa and Chief Engineer Suresh Kumar Kannoth, while Mineral Cesko will embark on her inaugural journey commanded by Capt. Senthil Murugan Vaithiyanathan and Chief Engineer Tercon Rosario Vaz later in June.

Here’s to smooth sailing, favourable winds, and many successful voyages ahead!
