World’s first wind-assisted Aframax vessel

Brands Hatch, a state-of-the-art new build Long Range 2 tanker, featuring three 37.5m WindWings® sails developed by BAR Technologies and manufactured by CMET, was officially named on 11 June at Shanghai Waigaoqiao Shipyard and has now entered our managed fleet.

Built by Shanghai Waigaoqiao Shipbuilding, owned and operated by Union Maritime, the Aframax tanker marks a significant milestone as the first newbuild tanker installation using WindWings®.

These new modern sails are projected to reduce the vessel’s fuel consumption by approximately 1,200 tonnes annually, equating to a reduction of over 3,800 tonnes of CO₂ emissions each year, providing a 30% improvement when compared with a modern 2022-built vessel of similar specification.

We extend our heartfelt congratulations to everyone involved, and sincere appreciation to Union Maritime for placing their trust in Anglo-Eastern with the technical management of this landmark vessel.

Brands Hatch is in the good hands of Capt. Neeraj Kumar Mishra and Chief Engineer Ashokkumar Dukhilal Gupta as she embarks on her maiden voyage. Here’s to favourable winds, following seas, and many successful voyages ahead!
